Aspius Aspius
Freshwater fish species Aspius aspius, sometimes referred to as the asp or the European asp, are widespread throughout Europe, including Croatia. This fish is referred to as "papratnica" in Croatia.
In Croatia, Aspius aspius is particularly common in the Drava and Sava river basins, as well as other rivers, streams, and lakes. These fish are frequently found in regions with rocky or gravelly bottoms and love flowing water.
Aspius aspius can weigh up to several kilograms and reach a maximum length of about 70 centimeters. Since they are predatory fish, they mostly eat insects, crabs, and smaller fish.
