Barbus Balcanicus

Freshwater fish species Barbus balcanicus, sometimes referred to as the Balkan barbel, are indigenous to the Balkan Peninsula, which includes Croatia. This species is referred to as "krkua" in Croatia.

In Croatia, rivers, streams, lakes, and other freshwater ecosystems all include Barbus balcanicus. These fish favor waters that are clean, moving quickly, and have rocky or gravelly bottoms. They consume a variety of foods, such as algae, insects, crabs, and tiny fish, as they are omnivorous.

Barbus balcanicus is regarded as a prized game fish in Croatia, and many anglers take pleasure in pursuing this species. Nonetheless, overfishing, pollution, and habitat degradation have all contributed to declining Balkan barbel populations in some regions.
