Charadrius dubius

The Little Ringed Plover (Charadrius dubius) is a delightful bird species found in Croatia, particularly along the shores of freshwater bodies such as rivers, lakes, and ponds.

Known for its petite size and distinctive yellow eye-ring, this charming plover is often seen darting along sandy or gravelly shores, foraging for small invertebrates and insects. Their nesting behavior is fascinating, with pairs often creating shallow scrapes in sandy or gravelly substrates where they lay their eggs, relying on their cryptic plumage to blend into their surroundings.

Despite their adaptability to human-altered landscapes, Little Ringed Plovers face threats from habitat loss, disturbance, and predation, highlighting the importance of conservation efforts to safeguard their populations. By preserving their nesting habitats, promoting sustainable land use practices, and raising awareness about the importance of these birds, we can contribute to the conservation of the Little Ringed Plover in Croatia.
