Charadrius hiaticula

The Common Ringed Plover (Charadrius hiaticula) is a charming shorebird species that frequents the coastal areas of Croatia.

With its striking black-and-white plumage and bright orange bill, it's easily recognizable along sandy beaches, mudflats, and rocky shores. These agile birds are often spotted darting along the shoreline, probing the sand and mud for small invertebrates and crustaceans to feed on.

During the breeding season, they create shallow scrapes in the sand where they lay their eggs, blending seamlessly with their surroundings to avoid predators. However, habitat loss and disturbance pose significant threats to their populations.

By protecting their coastal habitats, minimizing human disturbance, and promoting responsible tourism practices, we can ensure the continued survival of the Common Ringed Plover in Croatia
