Larus melanocephalus

Larus melanocephalus, commonly known as the Mediterranean Gull, is a beautiful bird species found along the coastlines of Croatia.

Recognizable by its striking appearance, this gull has a white body, gray wings, and a distinctive black head during the breeding season. Outside of the breeding season, its head turns white with a dark spot behind the eye. The Mediterranean Gull is known for its graceful flight and can often be seen diving into the water to catch fish, crustaceans, and insects. It nests in colonies on coastal cliffs, sandy beaches, and islands.

Conservation efforts in Croatia play a vital role in protecting their nesting habitats and ensuring the preservation of this species.
