Locustella naevia

Locustella naevia, commonly known as the Grasshopper Warbler, is a small and elusive bird species that can be found in grasslands, wetlands, and scrubby areas across Europe, including Croatia.

Its name derives from the insect-like reeling song it produces, which is often heard but rarely seen due to its secretive behavior. The Grasshopper Warbler has a streaked brown plumage, allowing it to blend into the grassy environments it inhabits.

In Croatia, it plays an important ecological role by helping to control insect populations while contributing to the region’s rich bird diversity. This species is also known to migrate, spending winters in southern Europe and northern Africa.
