Numenius arquata

Numenius arquata, commonly known as the Eurasian Curlew, is a large wader species found in Croatia.

These elegant birds are recognizable by their long, curved bills, which they use to probe mudflats and marshes for invertebrates like worms and crustaceans. Eurasian Curlews breed in upland moors and coastal wetlands across Europe and Asia, including Croatia, where they nest on the ground among grasses and shrubs. During the winter, they migrate to coastal areas and estuaries, forming large flocks.

The presence of the Eurasian Curlew underscores the importance of preserving coastal habitats and wetlands, not only for their survival but also for the myriad of other species that rely on these ecosystems. Let's celebrate the beauty of Croatia's natural landscapes and commit to protecting its diverse birdlife.
