Phoxinellus Fontinalis
Freshwater fish of the phoxinellus fontinalis species can be found in Croatia. It belongs to the family Cyprinidae and is also referred to as the Adriatic longbarbel gudgeon or the Adriatic long-snouted gudgeon.
This species mainly inhabits Croatia's coastal rivers and streams as well as the country's karstic lakes and wetlands. It is a crucial component of the freshwater ecology and feeds on tiny invertebrates.
The degradation of its habitat, pollution, and overfishing pose threats to the Adriatic longbarbel gudgeon, much like they do to the Croatian variety. To safeguard this species, conservation efforts are being made, including the establishment of protected areas and the enforcement of fishing rules to restrict the quantity of fish that can be taken.
