Pluvialis apricaria

The Eurasian Golden Plover (Pluvialis apricaria) is a migratory bird species that graces the skies of Croatia during its seasonal journeys.

Recognizable by its striking black and gold plumage, this bird frequents a variety of habitats, including wetlands, grasslands, and coastal areas. In Croatia, it can often be spotted in marshes, mudflats, and agricultural fields, where it forages for insects, worms, and seeds.

As a long-distance migrant, the Eurasian Golden Plover relies on a network of stopover sites during its migrations between breeding grounds in the Arctic and wintering grounds in southern Europe and Africa. Protecting these stopover sites and preserving their habitats is crucial for ensuring the continued survival of this beautiful bird species.

By celebrating and conserving the biodiversity of Croatia's landscapes, we contribute to the preservation of migratory species like the Eurasian Golden Plover for future generations to enjoy.
