Sylvia undata
Sylvia undata, also known as the Dartford Warbler, is a small, dark, and long-tailed warbler that inhabits Mediterranean regions, including certain parts of Croatia.
Characterised by its deep reddish-brown underparts, greyish-brown upper parts, and distinctive red eye-ring, this bird is often seen in low scrubby habitats such as heathlands and garrigue. It has a somewhat secretive nature, making it challenging to spot despite its lively behaviour. The Dartford Warbler primarily feeds on insects and spiders, but in colder months, it may also consume small berries.
In Croatia, as in much of its range, the species is vulnerable to habitat loss due to land development and climate change, making conservation efforts crucial for its long-term survival.
