Talpa Europaea
The European mole (Talpa europaea) is a mammal of the order Eulipotyphla. While moles are typically found in tunnel systems, the European mole is not exclusively an underground dweller.
The European mole has a cylindrical body and is 11 to 16 cm (4+1⁄2 to 6+1⁄2 in) long.
Endangered species in Croatia, the European mole in Croatia is widespread in the continental part and in the mountainous parts of Dalmatia, but also in the island of Cres which is the only island population of moles in the Mediterranean and deserves special attention in protection. The island of Cres with its 25 species of reptiles and 7 species of amphibians come just behind Sicily in terms of number of species of herpetofauna.
