Cobitis Dalmatina

The freshwater fish species Cobitis dalmatina, also called the Dalmatian spined loach, is unique to Croatia. This species is referred to as "Dalmatinski trnac" in Croatia.

In Croatia, rivers, streams, lakes, and other freshwater ecosystems all contain Cobitis dalmatina. These fish favor waters that are clean, moving quickly, and have rocky or gravelly bottoms. They consume a variety of foods, such as algae, insects, and crustaceans, as they are omnivorous.

Cobitis dalmatina is a species that is protected by both national and international conservation laws because it is rare and endangered in Croatia. Due to habitat loss, pollution, and overfishing, Dalmatian spined loach populations have decreased. In Croatia, initiatives are being made to preserve and rebuild these species' populations.
