Emys orbicularis
Emys orbicularis, commonly known as the European Pond Turtle, is a freshwater turtle species native to parts of Europe, including Croatia.
This species is characterised by its relatively smooth shell, which can vary in colour from olive to dark brown, often featuring yellow or orange spots. The European Pond Turtle typically inhabits slow-moving waters, such as ponds, marshes, and lakes, where it feeds on a varied diet of aquatic plants, insects, and small fish.
Unfortunately, habitat loss and pollution have contributed to its decline, making conservation efforts vital for ensuring the survival of this beautiful turtle species in its natural environment.
