Numenius tenuirostris
Numenius tenuirostris, also known as the Slender-billed Curlew, is a critically endangered bird species that once migrated through Croatia.
However, its population has drastically declined, and it is now considered one of the rarest birds in the world. The Slender-billed Curlew has a distinctive long, slender bill and a mottled brown plumage, making it unique among shorebirds. It breeds in Siberia and migrates through Europe to its wintering grounds in North Africa, including coastal areas of Croatia.
Sadly, its numbers have plummeted due to habitat loss, hunting, and other human-induced threats. Efforts to conserve this species and its habitats are crucial to prevent its extinction. Let's raise awareness about the plight of the Slender-billed Curlew and work together to protect its remaining populations and habitats in Croatia and beyond.
