Panurus biarmicus
Panurus biarmicus, commonly known as the Bearded Reedling or Bearded Tit, is a small, striking passerine bird often found in large reed beds in wetlands and marshes across Croatia.
This species is easily recognisable by the male’s prominent black "moustache" markings on its face, which contrast with its soft orange-brown plumage. Females lack this striking facial feature but share the warm tones. The Bearded Reedling is well-adapted to its reed-filled habitat, using its acrobatic ability to clamber through dense vegetation while foraging for insects and seeds.
In Croatia, it can be seen in marshy areas such as the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park. Its presence is a key indicator of healthy wetland ecosystems, and maintaining these environments is crucial for the conservation of this unique species.
