Turdus torquatus

Turdus torquatus, known as the Ring Ouzel, is a migratory thrush species found in the mountainous regions of Croatia, particularly during the breeding and migration seasons.

This bird is easily recognisable by its striking black plumage contrasted by a distinctive white crescent-shaped band across its chest, which gives it the name "ring." The Ring Ouzel is a shy and elusive bird, often inhabiting upland areas, where it feeds on invertebrates, fruits, and berries.

In Croatia, it can be observed in higher altitude regions with open landscapes, such as the Dinaric Alps. As the species is facing threats due to habitat loss and climate change, conservation efforts are increasingly important to ensure its continued presence in the country's rich avian biodiversity.
