Phoxinellus Croaticus

Freshwater fish of the Phoxinellus croaticus species are unique to Croatia and are mostly found in the Cetina River and its tributaries.

This species, also referred to as the Croatian longbarbel gudgeon or the Croatian long-snouted gudgeon, is a member of the Cyprinidae family.

Small in size, the Croatian longbarbel gudgeon normally grows to a length of 6 to 8 cm. It mostly inhabits clean, swift-moving streams and rivers, where it feeds on various tiny invertebrates.

The Croatian longbarbel gudgeon is unfortunately endangered, like like many freshwater fish species, by habitat loss, pollution, and exploitation. This species is being conserved, in part, by the establishment of protected areas and the enforcement of fishing laws.
