Phylloscopus proregulus
Phylloscopus proregulus, also known as the Pallas's Leaf Warbler, is a small and vibrant migratory bird that can occasionally be seen in Croatia, mainly during its autumn migration.
This tiny warbler is characterized by its bright olive-green plumage, a prominent yellowish crown stripe, and striking white wing bars, which make it stand out despite its small size. Its native breeding range is in the Siberian taiga, but it travels across Europe in migration, sometimes making appearances in the Balkans, including Croatia.
Known for its active foraging behavior, the Pallas's Leaf Warbler primarily feeds on insects, flicking through leaves and branches in search of food. Its high-pitched calls and energetic movements make it a delightful but rare sight for birdwatchers in the region.
As a part of Croatia’s diverse migratory bird population, it highlights the importance of preserving natural habitats to support both resident and migratory species.
