Sylvia nisoria
Sylvia nisoria, commonly known as the Barred Warbler, is a large species of warbler that can be found in Croatia during its breeding season, particularly in scrubby areas and open woodlands.
This bird is easily distinguished by its greyish plumage and distinct barred markings on its underparts, giving it a unique appearance. Males are more vividly coloured than females and juveniles, with a more pronounced barring pattern.
Barred Warblers are insectivorous, feeding on a variety of insects, caterpillars, and spiders, though they also consume fruits and berries during the autumn. Protecting Croatia's natural scrubland and woodland habitats is key to conserving the Barred Warbler's population.
