Sylvia melanocephala

Sylvia melanocephala, commonly known as the Sardinian Warbler, is a small, active bird that can be found in Croatia, especially along the Adriatic coast.

This species is easily recognisable by the male's striking black head and contrasting white throat, while females have a more subdued greyish-brown plumage. Sardinian Warblers typically inhabit dense Mediterranean scrub, maquis, and coastal bushes, where they feed on insects, spiders, and berries.

Their distinctive, rapid, and scratchy calls are often heard before they are seen, as they prefer to stay hidden in thick vegetation. Preserving coastal habitats is essential to ensuring the continued presence of this species in Croatia.
