Sylvia hortensis
Sylvia hortensis, also known as the Western Orphean Warbler, is a medium-sized migratory bird that can be found in certain regions of Croatia during the breeding season.
It has a distinctive appearance, with a dark grey head, white underparts, and a long tail. This warbler favours open woodlands, scrublands, and areas with scattered trees, often foraging in the undergrowth for insects, spiders, and small invertebrates.
Its melodious song, reminiscent of an oriole's, adds to the acoustic richness of the Croatian natural landscape. Conservation efforts aimed at preserving its habitats are crucial for maintaining biodiversity in Croatia.
