Vipera ursinii

Vipera ursinii, known as the Meadow Viper, is a small venomous snake species native to Croatia and other parts of Europe, particularly in grassy, open areas, meadows, and sparse woodlands.

This species is characterised by its relatively small size and distinctive, light brown or greyish coloration, with a dark, zigzag pattern running along its back. Vipera ursinii is a timid species, rarely aggressive towards humans, and its venom is not typically dangerous to people, although bites should still be treated with care.

The Meadow Viper primarily feeds on small vertebrates, such as lizards, amphibians, and rodents. However, this species is considered endangered due to habitat loss, fragmentation, and a decline in prey availability, as well as human disturbance.

Conservation efforts are crucial to preserve Vipera ursinii's habitats and ensure its continued presence in Croatia.
