Zamenis situla

Zamenis situla, also known as the Leopard Snake, is a non-venomous species found in parts of Croatia.

This striking snake is easily identifiable by its distinctive pattern, characterised by dark, elongated spots resembling a leopard's coat, set against a light grey or yellowish background. Typically inhabiting rocky and dry areas, as well as sparse forests, it preys on small vertebrates, including rodents and lizards.

Although harmless to humans, it is often mistaken for a venomous species due to its vivid colouration. Conservation efforts are necessary to protect Zamenis situla's habitats, as it faces threats from habitat loss and human activities.
