Bubo bubo

Bubo bubo, commonly known as the Eurasian Eagle-Owl, is one of the largest and most powerful owl species, found across Europe and parts of Asia, including Croatia.

Known for its striking orange eyes, massive wingspan, and prominent ear tufts, this owl is an apex predator in its habitat, preying on a wide range of animals, from small mammals and birds to larger species. It favours remote rocky landscapes, forested areas, and cliff sides, where it can nest and hunt effectively.

The Eurasian Eagle-Owl is not only remarkable for its size but also for its hauntingly deep and resonant hoot, which can be heard from great distances, especially during the breeding season. In Croatia, this majestic bird symbolises the untamed beauty of the country’s natural landscapes and underscores the importance of wildlife conservation efforts.
