Chelonia mydas

Chelonia mydas, commonly known as the Green Sea Turtle, is an endangered species that can be found in the warm coastal waters of Croatia, particularly in the Adriatic Sea.

Recognised for its distinct olive-green shell and large size, the Green Sea Turtle primarily feeds on seagrass and algae, playing a crucial role in maintaining the health of seagrass ecosystems. This species is known for its long migrations between feeding grounds and nesting sites, often returning to the same beach where it was born to lay its eggs.

Conservation efforts in Croatia focus on protecting nesting sites and reducing human impact on their habitats, highlighting the importance of preserving these magnificent creatures for the health of marine ecosystems.
