Testudo hermanni
Testudo hermanni, commonly known as Hermann's Tortoise, is a terrestrial turtle species native to the Mediterranean region, including parts of Croatia.
Recognised for its beautiful, domed shell that exhibits a pattern of yellow and black, this tortoise is typically found in dry, scrubby habitats, grasslands, and woodlands where it can bask in the sun and forage for a diet primarily consisting of grasses, herbs, and leaves.
Hermann's Tortoise is known for its relatively slow movement and long lifespan, often exceeding 50 years in the wild. However, it faces various threats, including habitat loss, illegal collection, and road traffic, necessitating conservation measures to ensure its survival in its natural habitat.
