Hierophis viridiflavus
Hierophis viridiflavus, commonly known as the Green Whip Snake, is a non-venomous and highly adaptable snake species distributed across various parts of southern Europe, including Croatia.
Known for its striking appearance, this species typically features a greenish-yellow and black pattern, which provides effective camouflage in its natural habitats of forests, grasslands, and rocky areas. Reaching lengths of up to 1.5 metres, it is a fast and agile predator, feeding on small mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles.
Despite its occasional defensive behaviour when threatened, the Green Whip Snake plays a vital ecological role in controlling pest populations.
