Otus scops
Otus scops, commonly known as the Eurasian Scops Owl, is a small migratory owl species that visits Croatia during the breeding season.
Known for its distinctive, repetitive "peep" call, this owl is often heard on warm summer nights in wooded and semi-open areas. Its greyish-brown plumage provides excellent camouflage, allowing it to blend seamlessly into tree bark as it roosts during the day.
Feeding mainly on insects and small invertebrates, the Eurasian Scops Owl plays a vital role in controlling insect populations. The preservation of its habitats is essential to maintaining the ecological balance in Croatian landscapes.
