Salmo Visovacensis

A freshwater fish species called Salmo visovacensis, also referred to as the Visovac trout, is exclusive to the Krka River in Croatia, more especially the region surrounding the Visovac Island.

Adult Visovac trout typically grow to a length of up to 25 cm, making them a rather modest fish. It features a silvery back and sides with a brownish-green back, black dots, and an orange-red underbelly. It is a predatory fish that consumes tiny fish, crabs, and insects.

The Visovac trout is regarded as endangered due to habitat deterioration, pollution, and overfishing, like many other freshwater fish species in Croatia. Fishing restrictions, habitat restoration initiatives, and the establishment of protected areas are all part of the species' conservation efforts.
