Telescopus fallax

Telescopus fallax, commonly known as the European Cat Snake, is a mildly venomous yet non-aggressive species found in Croatia, primarily inhabiting rocky terrains, Mediterranean shrublands, and dry forests.

This nocturnal snake is characterised by its vertical, cat-like pupils and a slender body with a pattern of dark blotches or bands on a greyish or brownish background, providing excellent camouflage in its environment.

Telescopus fallax preys mainly on small reptiles, birds, and rodents, using its mild venom to subdue prey, although it poses no significant threat to humans. As a vital part of the ecosystem, conservation of its natural habitat ensures the survival of this fascinating species.
