Triturus dobrogicus

Triturus dobrogicus, also known as the Danube Crested Newt, is a species of newt found in the wetlands and freshwater ecosystems of southeastern Europe, including parts of Croatia.

This amphibian is easily recognisable by its vibrant coloration, with males exhibiting a distinctive orange or yellow stripe along the body and a prominent, serrated crest during the breeding season. The species prefers slow-moving or stagnant water, such as ponds and marshes, for reproduction.

Triturus dobrogicus is semi-aquatic, spending much of its life in water, but it is also found in moist terrestrial environments when not breeding. Despite its resilient nature, this species faces significant threats from habitat loss, water pollution, and the draining of wetlands.

Ongoing conservation initiatives are necessary to protect both Triturus dobrogicus and its fragile habitat.
